Nature

Samaya is a 100-acre bushland property in the hills of Rosebank, northern New South Wales, Australia. It features glorious views, creek and swimming holes, 4 kilometres of walking tracks, rainforest, a 2 kilometre sacred labyrinth walk, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and abundant wildlife including wallabies, lizards, echidnas, cicadas, frogs, birds and the occasional koala bear. Silence, beauty and tranquillity are part of the environment and make this sanctuary an ideal place to relax and feel the natural rhythm of life.

Samaya lies in the heart of the rainbow region - perhaps the lushest in Australia. It is the region of an ancient volcano called Wollumbin, a volcano whose mouth (caldera) spans twenty miles in diameter. The towns and hamlets of the rainbow region are scattered in the volcano's caldera and on its slopes all the way down to the South Pacific Ocean.

Forty minutes away from Samaya is Byron Bay, a surfing mecca and spiritual capital of northern NSW with magnificent beaches and coastlines. One hour to the other side are the rainforests of the Border Ranges and in between there are seven national parks, among which at out doorstep is the famous Minyon Falls.

The region is also one of the world's pre-eminent centres for sustainable living and alternative lifestyles.

At the ashram, we try to live in harmony with the land, close to the earth. We eat organic vegetables from our garden and fruit (bananas, papayas, mandarins, mangoes) from our trees. We drink water from the spring and wash dishes with rainwater.
